Product Description

This Amitabha Buddha thangka is 34 inches long and 20 inches wide. This thangka was handmade in Nepal. There is a stick in the top of this thangka for hanging, and this thangka is made from brocade.

Amitabha's name means, "he whose splendor is infinite." Amitabha is one of the five Dhyana Buddhas, along with Aksobhya, Amoghasiddhi, Ratnasambhava, and Vairocana. Amitabha's hands are often portrayed in the meditation mudra, or with a lotus in his hands. In Tibetan Buddhism, the Amitabha Buddha is portrayed in red, because red is the color of compassion, love, and emotional energy. Amitabha is generally referred to as the Buddha of the west, and so his color is potrayed as the color of the sun when it sets. Amitabha is the supreme power of nature set on the earthly plane. Because of this he is accesible to all humans, and is one of the most popular Buddhas.
